Unwrapping God's Promises

Series Overview

In our ‘Unwrapping God’s Promise’ series, children will unwrap another part of God’s amazing promise: that He would send His Son to save the world. From the prophets’ words, to the angel’s message, to the night Jesus was born, children will see how every piece of the Christmas story shows God’s faithfulness to do what He says. They’ll discover that Jesus is the greatest gift ever given, and that God’s promises are trustworthy and bring hope, joy, and life.

The Gift Given

12/21/2025 Lesson Overview

This week, children celebrated the heart of Christmas as we unwrapped the greatest gift of all—Jesus. Building on the promises God made throughout this series, children learned that Christmas marks the moment God’s promise of a Savior finally arrived. Through the story of Jesus’ birth, they discovered that Jesus was sent not just as a baby, but as a Savior who came to rescue us from sin and bring us back to God. Children explored why Jesus was born, what He came to do, and how His birth shows that God is faithful to keep His promises. As we celebrate Christmas, we’re celebrating more than a birthday—we’re celebrating that God’s promised gift was given.
Foundational Verse:
The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!
Luke 2:11 NLT

Series Memory Verse!

1 Corinthians 1:9 NLT/ ICB
God is faithful to do what he says. He is the One who has called you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

From Sunday to Everyday

Keep the Conversation Going at Home

Our heart is to partner with you in nurturing your child’s faith. We believe discipleship begins in the home, and when families talk about God together and involve Him in daily life, it makes a lasting impact. These simple ideas can help you keep the conversation going throughout the week:

The Greatest Gift:

Children crafted a gift bag in church and were encouraged to think of a special friend or sibling that they can bless with a gift (can be hand-made or store-bought). As they package the gift, talk about how excited the person will be to receive it. Talk about how they might learn more about the gift (e.g., looking at the picture on the box or reading the card). Discuss how we can learn more about Jesus, since He is God’s greatest gift to us.

Why Jesus Came:

Use everyday moments to talk about why Christmas matters. Share that Jesus was born to save us and bring us back to God – something we could never do on our own.

Discuss as a family:

Use simple, ongoing conversations to help your child remember and apply what they learned. This can be easily incorporated in your day-to-day routine. Try asking these questions during dinner, in the car, or right before bed:
  • How does Jesus’ birth show us that God keeps His promises?'
  • How can we show others God’s love in the way God gave Jesus to us?
  • What do you think Jesus was like as a newborn baby?
