Unwrapping God's Promises
Series Overview
In our ‘Unwrapping God’s Promise’ series, children will unwrap another part of God’s amazing promise: that He would send His Son to save the world. From the prophets’ words, to the angel’s message, to the night Jesus was born, children will see how every piece of the Christmas story shows God’s faithfulness to do what He says. They’ll discover that Jesus is the greatest gift ever given, and that God’s promises are trustworthy and bring hope, joy, and life.
The Gift Promised
12/07/2025 Lesson Overview
This week, children learned that the Christmas story begins long before Jesus was born—with God’s promise to send a Savior. They talked about what it feels like to wait for a promised gift and connected that feeling to the hope God’s people had as they awaited the Savior. By exploring the stories of Isaiah and Abraham, children saw that God’s promises bring hope and that we can trust Him to do what He says, even when the wait is long. In a ‘Follow the Promise’ scavenger hunt, children followed clues just as God’s people—from Abraham to Isaiah to all who waited for Jesus—followed His promises, trusting that something good was coming.
Foundational Verse:
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. [...] And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 NLT

Keep the Conversation Going at Home
Our heart is to partner with you in nurturing your child’s faith. We believe discipleship begins in the home, and when families talk about God together and involve Him in daily life, it makes a lasting impact. These simple ideas can help you keep the conversation going throughout the week:
Demonstrate Waiting with Hope:
As your child brings up Christmas wish-list items, use it as an opportunity to show how waiting can be exciting—just like God’s people felt hopeful as they waited for the promised Savior.
Practice Keeping Promises:
Encourage your child to make small promises throughout the day (like, “I promise I will finish my dinner”) and then follow through on them. As they do, talk about how God always keeps His promises too.
Discuss as a family:
Use simple, ongoing conversations to help your child remember and apply what they learned. This can be easily incorporated in your day-to-day routine. Try asking these questions during dinner, in the car, or right before bed:
- What was God’s special promise that you learned about at church?
- How do you think God’s people acted as they waited for a Savior?
- When we have to wait for God’s promises, what can we do to stay patient and remember that He always does what He says?
